The results of Glass of Bubbly 2017 tastings
A professional wine judge will usually score a wine on the look, aroma and taste by scoring out of 100 points to decide on a gold, silver, bronze or highly commended badge. The awards this time though, introduced by the award’s founders Glass of Bubbly, also required judges to rate wines per descriptive category such as Fruity & Floral and Summer Days so that consumers will better understand why a wine deserves its status.
Each wine went through a detailed tasting to not only score it points for a medal, but also points for a relevant category in a totally new wine to judge wines to attract better understanding from consumers. The judging was led by Champagne author and Glass of bubbly’s Honorary Judge Michael Edwards and Head of Judging Tatiana Mann.
36 of the world’s top Champagne and sparkling wine judges were invited to Westminster, London to taste through 100’s of award entries to get down to just one stand out sample. A broad selection of judges from chefs to Champagne ambassadors, wine writers to Master of Wines spent a couple of days tasting, reviewing, scoring, discussing and agreeing eventually on what they considered to be The World’s Finest Glass of Bubbly.
